Had such a great time at this joint! Such a fun and friendly environment. The food was delicious, and our waitress, Lauren, made our visit absolutely fabulous! She was so cute and friendly! Made me feel like I was back home in the south!! I would 100% recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting the city, and I will definitely be back!

PS- get the bottomless mimosas for a great time;)

I came here on during when that polar vortex hit for dinner with a friend who was on a work trip in NYC. I'm assuming the weather was why the place was soo empty and why the waitress was available immediately whenever we needed something.

We split the 4 Meat Combo which consisted of Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork Shoulder, Black Pepper Bark Brisket, and Beale Street Half Chicken. It also came with slow-smoked baked beans, creamy coleslaw, and cornbread. This all costed $60 which is not a bad deal split between two people and it tasted great!

      Updated review

Things have changed since I last reviewed Southern Hospitality. It's still a decent place but it seems like a shadow of its former self.

I needed a place to meet a friend who was back in town after moving away and this was a convenient spot. Having had many good meals here in the past, I figured it was perfect.

When I walked in, I realized that they front part of the restaurant it now half the size it used to be. There's a gray wall separating it from the other half and where they used to have tables and chairs up front, now they have high top tables and backless stools which are super uncomfortable. Which ordinarily isn't a problem but with service so slow, my back was in agony by the time we left.

It was a freezing winter night and the place wasn't that crowded. Two tables by the window and then my group and another high top. I could only see one table in the back. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough staff. The unhappy woman running the bar was also (kind of?) taking orders, but then sometimes another woman would come by so I wasn't sure who our server was. Even though it wasn't crowded, they seemed busy with fixing one of the drink machines so service was very slow.

We weren't too hungry so got some cocktails, chicken tenders, loaded tots and a chicken sandwich. Honestly, the tenders were big and flavorful...we liked them. And the loaded tots were also pretty good. Chicken sandwich was fine. I was a little distressed when my friends wanted to order dessert because it took another half hour to get that and get our bill, but the banana pudding was serviceable and the bread pudding was very tasty.

I will say the guys who brought the food and cleared the tables were efficient and hard working.

Like I said, the food was pretty good, but with the uncomfortable seats and the slow, disjointed service, it just wasn't a pleasant meal overall. There are other options in the neighborhood for that type of comfort food so I'll probably visit those before returning to SH.

I have never been Southern Hospitality BBQ before. So my friend picked this place to meet with another friend.

The drink what I had was really good and strong enough. However they need mor servers. It took a lot of time to get our drinks and food. The location of the restaurant was really good

I had crispy chicken tenders which it was so delicious and we order tater tots as well. As a desert we had banana pudding which is was outstanding and bread pudding was so good.

I believe if they increase their staff, it will be much better.

      Southern hospitality is very hospitable!
Came here for brunch on Sunday around 2. The place wasn't too crowded, prob cuz it had rained the whole weekend, so we were seated immediately. Table for 5 (3 adults 2 kids). Wait staff was friendly and attentive.

The Brunch menu had many options to fit the taste of most. Entrees ranged from $16 -26. For my entree I got the chicken and waffles. They give you a choice between light and dark meat... and they give you lots of pieces of chicken. I got the bottomless mimosas for $18+ entree. My cup never got below half, they way bottomless is intended. I was enjoying my meal so much, the waitress asked me if I wanted to spice up my mimosa with some bellini...eh, why not!?

SN: kids got the chicken and waffle bites, which are small pieces of chicken covered in the waffle batter and then fried. 1 child enjoyed it, the other not so much. I like the concept, maybe the consistency made it weird for them.

Definitely gonna make another trip here to enjoy some bottomless deliciousness

Pro tip: Check in here with the app for a freebie! If you have to go here because everywhere else is too busy, at least get something free out of it!

A rare misfire in NYC cuisine. After another establishment across the street had an hour-long wait, we took the place with immediate seating. We should have also taken the hint and kept looking!

Service started out very promisingly, but then went downhill from there. My brisket meal came with baked beans, cornbread, and coleslaw. I asked if I could get another cornbread instead of the beans, but that was met with a terse, "we can't do that." Yet I could substitute the beans for tater tots... Those types of arbitrary rules are maddening, and poor delivery of this message just makes it worse.

It would be all worth it if the food was good, but it was just ok. The top of the pepper brisket was great. Everything below the top was meh; too chewy and devoid of flavor. I had to use generous amounts of barbecue sauce to make it manageable. And it was a good thing I didn't get two pieces of cornbread as it was pretty sub-par. Junior's has far better cornbread, and they bring that out for free with your meal!

Bright spot: The aforementioned tater tots were quite good.

      BBQ and beer!

I had been wanting to check out this spot for some time but also was incredibly hesitant from both word of mouth of friends trying it, yelpers trying it, reading reviews. . . . they seemed either polarizing or that everything was just not that very good. We have so many options of bbq in the city that excel in what they craft, why bother going for some midtown crap hole? Why? Because they changed chefs recently and now everything tastes really freaking amazing. I don't know how it was before and I have nothing to compare. . . . but thank you Justin Timberlake. . . . you make some great bbq after you adjusted everything.

My favorites - Definitely the brisket and ribs. The ribs melt off the bone. But one of the major stars of our spread was the burnt-end brisket chili with a side of corn bread. Smacks lips. You can't go wrong. The burnt ends are caramelized, the chili is ground up with only meat (no beans) to ruin this perfect stew. I love life again. Unbuttons pants.

The sides are just as good as the meats. Mashed potatoes that are slathered with a thick white gravy, collard greens with some kind of fatty bacon, beans, mac and cheese. Pretty much all of it. They even have the option of lobster mac and cheese - which is serious. Another insane new dish on their menu - their shrimp and sausage gumbo. Spicy and full of flavor. Burgers with brisket. Burgers with thick cut bacon, bananas, cheese, and peanut butter. The only things I wasn't crazy about - the chicken was dry and the fried green tomatoes weren't the best but only because I don't think green tomatoes are particularly in season at the moment.

Deserts - they do crazy boozy milkshake floats with soda, alcohol and ice cream. Bread pudding I think was also soaked in booze. They also do a bottomless drink brunch on weekends for a set price (not sure how much it is because I just saw the street sign when I was exiting) but if it involves their moonshine, you won't be walking in a straight line home.

BBQ In NYC. Just steps from Times Square?

      What could go wrong?

BBQ was good. Cornbread muffins and beans were good.

But for some reason I left with a stomach ache. Probably my fault for not eating all day and then chowing down on brisket smoked north of the Mason Dixon line.

Maybe it was the hip hop music?

Being in NYC, my husband and I just wanted to find a place to sit and have some lunch on a rainy day. We decided to check out Southern Hospitality as it was near the place that we were staying at, and from the outside, it seemed like a cool place to try out.

On the inside, it looks very rustic with wooden walls and southern decor throughout the venue. When we walked in, we were quickly greeted by the host, who then sat us down right away. After about 10 minutes we were finally greeted by our waiter who took our drink order, and we decided to get the fried pickles for appetizers. About 15 minutes later, we finally get our drinks and our waiter finally takes our lunch order. I ended up ordering the Bobb Cobb Salad, while my husband ordered the mac n cheese with bacon. 10 minutes go by...20 minutes go by...by then we are out of our drinks and no one had come to check on us. We finally get our fried pickles, and we had to ask our waiter for more drinks.

The fried pickles were...meh. They had a very thick coating on them that was somewhat bland. However, by then, we were starving and devoured them quickly. We then waited another 20 minutes before our meals arrived...and I should mention that aside from my husband and I, there was only one other couple in the place. My bobb cobb salad was actually really good and filled with various veggies and chicken along with a whole avocado, which I appreciated. My husband's mac n cheese was hot and seemed decent.

As we finished our meals, you probably guessed it, we waited another excessive amount of time before our waiter even checked on us let alone asked for our bill.

In general, the food is decent, however, the service was seriously lacking. It was almost like no one cared or even cared about the customers that were giving them business.

My friend and I came in around 7 30-8 PM on a Thursday night and were seated right away. We were given our menus and our orders were taken right afterwards.

We ordered Buffalo wings, chicken and waffles as well as a slice of chocolate mousse cake to share.

WINGS: The wings had a good flavor but since I usually don't Buffalo flavored wings the higher acidity of the sauce took me by surprise. But the blue cheese sauce helped to offset that. Would have liked it more if there were more carrot sticks on the side.

CHICKEN AND WAFFLES: The waffle portion was great the chicken was a bit hit or miss for me. The flavor of the chicken was good, the slight spice helped to offset the sweetness of the waffle but it would have also been better if the chicken was slightly crispier. Additionally, the meat was a bit on the drier side as well.

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE: The flavor of the cake was delicious and they also gave us a pretty big portion to chow down on.

All in all, a good restaurant with some big city rustic charms.
