Kikusushi was re-opened on 1/23/2021. This legendary sushi restaurant is now under new owner and new kitchen crew! Not only we continue to service high quality sushi and sashimi, but also have turned our store into a mini Japanese marketplace. From to-go bentos, to sashimi trays, and to Japanese groceries, you can have them all during your trip to Kikusushi. Come and check out our new store. We hope to see you there :)

Q:
Do they sell blocks of sashimi, like other Japanese supermarkets? Like a solid 8oz block of sashimi, not sliced. EDIT - I went here. They do have blocks of sashimi, but selection is extremely limited. Salmon, tuna, octopus, tamago.

We had a good experience last time, so we came back, but this time, despite ordering ahead via fantuan for pickup, they somehow missed our order. We showed up at the specified pickup time, and even though it wasn't busy, they hadn't even started our order because they didn't notice the order that went through 30 minutes prior.
They also missed our request for no salmon on the sushi bento combo. The rest of the sushi rice was also really dense and mushy.
I hate giving small businesses bad reviews, but it was just disappointing overall.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1May 21, 2023Previous reviewI was looking for some sushi takeout, and my husband found this place while he was in the South Bay. It's a casual takeout place, and at first, when I saw the menu, I thought "$19.99 for ikura??" BUT that's because I'm used to 2 pieces per order, but they do FIVE pieces per order.
It's a grocery store type setting, and I thought it reminded me of Kitayama in Fremont, and it turns out, they're affiliated. Initially, I wasn't expecting much, but I was very happily surprised with what we got!
- Ikura: a bit salty, but the texture was good
- 5 piece nigiri ($15.99): a hot deal; all the fish was fresh, and they added nice details to each piece, including small touches like yuzu on one piece, pickled wasabi on another, jalapeno and a sweet soy on another, etc
- Futo maki: generously sized. They actually used sushi rice with the right amount of seasoning/vinegar in this one; the rice on the nigiri was more plain
- Saba shioyaki combo: a really good value at $29.99 - saba and a generous amount of sushi - nigiri (tuna, salmon, hamachi), sashimi (tuna, salmon, hamachi), and maki (tuna, salmon)... plus rice.
All the fish was fresh, and I was very happily surprised with the details to the nigiri pieces. We'll definitely be back for casual sushi takeout! - Jul 5, 2022
We came on a weekday pretty close to opening time so they were still preparing food to set où on the counter. We walked the store and looked at the menu. When I finally decided what to get they had brought out the spam musubi. I ended up getting:
Salmon bento: this was good. I liked the salmon and salad. I didn't really like the fried tuna croquette thing.
Unagi box: my kid devoured this. It looked very fresh.
Musubi: one kid liked it and the other kid didn't.
We picked up the food and picnicked at a nearby park.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 15, 2021
Sadly, we had a very awful experience here.
So Kikusushi Restaurant and the Osaka marketplace are run out of the same building. I originally thought that it would be more time efficient to order at the restaurant, and then go in and browse while we waited for our food. The 'restaurant' has outdoor seating, were you order from the QR code, and you can also sit inside along the market.
After we ordered, I realized that many things we ordered were pre-made inside the market (more in my Osaka Market review), so immediately realized that ordering ahead didn't save any time.
The issue came more when I received a text that our order was ready. I went to the food counter, and the guys at the sushi counter were confused and didn't speak much English. They told me go to to the market receptionist. I went to her, and she was not sure what happened to the order, so we went to the back kitchen. The people there also seemed confused. No one knew where our order was and no one seemed to be working on it. Twenty minutes later I see some of the dishes are ready but no one has given them to me, I'm trying to ask the kitchen staff if there's an update, and this rude woman directs me back to the receptionist, who then just walks me back to the kitchen. Anyways more run around before we got all our food.
At least I got a lot of steps.
This far into pandemic, it's rare to see a restaurant have so much confusion around their QR code ordering system.
Food was mediocre, maybe tainted by the overall poor experience.
The poke bowl was alright- the fish had a nicely seasoning.
I use california rolls as a standard comparison, and their crab filling was just dry pieces of imitation crab.
The chicken donburi was pretty tasty and covered in cooked fluffy egg batter. Pork Sando was awful- pork was too thick and overcooked and there was no flavoring to it, other than the deep frying of the cutlet.
Again 3 out of the 4 things we ordered (everything but the donburi), I saw in the marketplace, so could've just grabbed them!
So after we ate, I told the receptionist/manager person that the entire experience was very frustrating and that everyone seemed confused. She then proceeded to prostrate on the ground shouting repeatedly that she was sorry. this was absolutely mortifying. A simple apology would've been fine and not left us feeling so uncomfortable.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 1665263499Jun 17, 2021
This review is not for the Japanese Restaurant, but for the market that set up shop inside. I'm not sure if it was a pop up or permanent thing.
They had such a wide selection of everyyything! Chips, candy, instant ramen, fresh sushi, onigiri, frozen meats, etc! My bf and I were just walking around and browsing everything they had. We ended up getting some chips and ramen, which we've never seen before.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 27, 2022
Nice little Japanese grocery and sushi bar. I got some hamachi kama and tuna kama from the fridge area, heat them up in the air fryer and they turned out delicious! Hamachi kama was cooked and I believe it was $20/lb, tuna kama was also cooked, it was 12.99 for a huge piece, very reasonable prices!

Kikusushi has transformed into a small Japanese market! When you enter, there is a room (used to be for private parties when it was a restaurant) that sells items for $1.29. It's a mini version of Daiso!
When you go to the main room, you will find a selection of prepared foods like futomaki, inari sushi, gyoza, onigiri, chirashi bowls, and sashimi. It's convenient for a quick lunch or dinner.
They have a variety of packaged Japanese products like snacks, candies, sauces, and other items (e.g. curry packs, furikake, salad dressing). They also have frozen Snake River Farms wagyu- good for shabu shabu, Jidori chicken, and raw fish. I don't think I saw any fresh produce.
There wasn't a Japanese market in this area so it's a great addition. They also have Taiwanese food you can order ahead of time through the FreshQ app (promo of 5% off right now for grand opening).
I'm excited to have this new store in our area and I hope more people learn about it!Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Jan 5, 2010Previous review3.5 stars
My family has been going to Kikusushi for at least 10 years, and I still remember when they had their old location near Nob Hill. They're very consistent, so every time we order food to go or dine in, we know what to expect. That being said, nothing is unique or extremely memorable.
Kikusushi has all of the bento boxes and sushi rolls that you can find at any Japanese restaurant. They have a sushi bar as well as tables. As others mentioned, they have a fairly quiet and low key atmosphere. Most of the people eating there are families and couples. Service is good, and you never have to wait long for the food to arrive.
The prices are reasonable for Japanese food (and for being so close to Saratoga). An added bonus is that they have frequent diner cards, which save you $10 after you get 10 stamps (one stamp per meal per visit). - Feb 27, 2022
Kiki sushi I knew from high school is now Osaka Marketplace. There's a great assortment of Japanese snacks and drinks and a cold section of to-go sushi/sandos (30% off after 5pm)!
You are still able to order sushi at the counter or by tapping on the touchscreen (also at the counter).
A great pit stop if you want a snack! When you walk in the are fun flavors of ice cream in the freezers and "just expired" snacks on sale for $1.29.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - M P.San Jose, CA19233Sep 29, 2023
The sushi here was only mediocre, not sure if they were just having a bad day, but per some of the other low reviews, I guess not. Not so great food can be made up with good service, but such was not the case in this arena either

If I can, I want give them 0 or - stars.
Just don't go there.
I pick up Bara Chirashi Bowl a day before yesterday.
Went home and tasted one bite, I spit it all. Sashimi was slimy and sushi rice was taste like 2 days old. I am Japanese, I make sushi my self, so I can tell how old this is. I was so angry went back to the store and complained.
Sushi ceff replaced new one. But my house is 30 min away from there.
Also, I wanted to talk with the owner. Cashier called the owner, but didn't want talk with me, asked me to leave my name # and reason. I did it.
I just wanted apology, because I could get sick.
But, I did not hear from the owner at all.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
