Top 10 Best Tom Hanks Movies

The Top Ten
1 Forrest Gump

No doubt about this, he deserved that Oscar for this movie. I'm so glad that he won an Oscar for this movie. Not only did he deserve an Oscar for this movie, but he also deserved an Oscar for Castaway, Captain Phillips, Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, and Apollo 13. Out of all the actors in this world, Tom Hanks is truly my number 1 favorite and best actor, in my opinion.

Surely the best movie of Hank's filmography to date. The character spent his lifetime chasing love, and when he finally achieves it, it is found to be dying. Thus, the tragedy of life is depicted very truly - one cannot be perfectly happy. He can achieve perfection in whatever he does, but still, he has to long for something or the other.

2 Saving Private Ryan

I'm sorry Forrest Gump, I love the film, but it should be below Saving Private Ryan. Hanks gives a heartfelt performance, but in Saving Private Ryan, he delivers a gritty performance that tops Forrest Gump.

There is absolutely no other! His performance is pretty good, but the movie is so much better than any Tom Hanks movie! It does rival Forrest Gump, though.

Greatest war movie one will ever see! Everything is in place. Direction, acting, brotherhood... you name it, this movie has it all.

3 The Green Mile

No other words to describe this movie other than 'simply stunning'. Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan provide an incredible double act that will almost certainly strike your emotions and reduce you to tears. Along with The Shawshank Redemption, it is the best film I've ever witnessed.

I'm surprised that this movie didn't come in as #1. This is the greatest all-time movie Tom Hanks could have ever starred in. There was so much passion, tears, and storyline that impacted a sense of feeling that it was insane. This will "always" be my favorite!

4 Cast Away

This is my favorite film! Let's talk about his acting. He blew me away in terms of his acting. The raw emotion and how he played his part was just amazing. When the plane crashes, it was so shocking and emotional. Also, the story kept me interested. My eyes were glued to the screen watching this.

Now let's talk about the character development. Tom Hanks was so developed in this movie. A man on a stranded island trying to survive for dear life. But to understand the character development, just watch the movie.

It was also really balanced in terms of color. Cinematography means a lot to me. In this movie, there were lush greens, beautiful blues, and bright yellows. Yellow is REALLY prominent, like his raft, which you will see throughout the movie. If you want a beautiful movie in every way, check out this movie! PLEASE WATCH THIS MOVIE! Everything about it is just breathtaking!

5 Toy Story

This is the sixth best animated movie in my opinion, and Tom Hanks nails Woody.

Love this movie, it's awesome. Tom Hanks is the best actor ever!

Toy Story is a huge part of my childhood.

6 Big

Forrest Gump is so overrated. Tom Hanks has made several movies better than Forrest Gump, including Big, Turner and Hooch, Sleepless in Seattle, Catch Me If You Can, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, The Toy Story movies, Charlie Wilson's War, You've Got Mail, The Polar Express, Philadelphia, and Bridge of Spies. Big, specifically, is a really well-made classic.

I saw this movie when I was 10 on cable television. It inspired me then, and I wanted to see it again but couldn't because I live in India, and you can't just go to a store and buy an American movie in those days. About a year ago, I downloaded it, found complete silence, and then saw it again. It felt like the last piece of an incomplete puzzle.

7 Philadelphia

I just re-watched this movie! Tom played the hell out of that role. Why the heck is this movie so far down on the list?

This should have been higher on the list, the acting is the best.

I'm in love with Andrew Beckett thanks to Tom Hanks's acting.

8 Apollo 13

Not a false note in Hanks' acting... No overwrought response when he realizes what the crew of Apollo 13 faces, the odds stacked pretty much against them. He is in complete control, knowing his crew depends on him.

This movie is wonderful, not only for the great acting but also for the music, which makes you feel happy while still crying, glad these men were saved... Tom Hanks makes this film one of my best ever.

I absolutely loved this movie. I also like how it relates to NASA too!

9 Catch Me If You Can

An ever-loved film by whoever watches this film. This film should have been awarded an Oscar. Just shocked seeing this film at the bottom of the list. How can people forget this movie?

It's a movie of comedy, documentary, and drama. One of the best true stories ever put on a movie. Plus, it's one of his best movies made so far.

I love this film and love watching it with my family. It's the best film of Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio ever.

10 Toy Story 2
The Contenders
11 The Terminal

This is a great movie because the whole movie is set within a terminal. I have seen all Tom Hanks movies, and I like this movie and 'Angels and Demons' very much. The best part about this movie is that Hanks makes friends with the people in the terminal and falls in love with a woman. I believed this movie would be next in rank to Forrest Gump. I am pretty much disappointed. Vote for this movie, guys.

That expression at the moment he sees on TV that his country has witnessed a coup is priceless. What an amazing movie, Hanks never stops mesmerizing you. The innocence of his character is the prize winner here. He's adorable.

12 Toy Story 3

Why isn't Toy Story 3 in the top ten? It's higher than The Green Mile and Big on the list for best movies of all time.

13 Captain Phillips

Tom Hanks' best film in recent times, absolutely incredible. He gives such a genuine and strong performance with great depth. Captain Phillips is a breathtaking film with tremendous performances, and it's full of intensity and excitement. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Definitely deserves to be in the top 5. Great movie! Incredible acting by Tom Hanks. It's a must-watch! The gripping story and suspense are there till the very end.

Decided to vote for this because it belongs in the Top 10. Excellent performance by Hanks and everyone in this film. Truly captivating.

14 A League of Their Own

Classic Tom Hanks in this movie. The long pissing scene is one that I will never forget.

15 Road to Perdition

Tom Hanks at his best. The best father-son relationship ever on the silver screen. The awesome cinematography will take your heart away. The storytelling and the direction will take you back to the winters of 1931!

An incredible movie, it kept me enticed, and I would watch it again. Tom Hanks excels in his role and makes you feel for him and believe he is a bad guy. Just so many different things going on at the same time, it's impossible to be bored.

Before this movie, I could never picture Tom Hanks as a criminal or a mobster. But this is just another example of his great acting abilities.

16 The Polar Express
17 Saving Mr. Banks

This is the saddest movie I've seen.

18 Bridge of Spies

Riveting. Great dialogue about American values. A man never loses his intentions, even when being tested by fire. Best movie I've ever seen.

Excellent adaptation of a true story, riveting to watch.

Hanks is outstanding. Oscar-worthy, in my opinion.

19 Splash

This early Hanks movie should be a lot higher on the list! So many classic actors here... Eugene Levy, Daryl Hannah, and of course John Candy (classic actor and really funny guy) helping to carry the show - it must go down as one of his best!

20 Sleepless in Seattle

It's definitely one of the best romantic movies ever!

21 The Simpsons Movie
22 A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
23 The Da Vinci Code

This movie mesmerized me. I watched it over 50 times, and it would not be an exaggeration to call myself a Tom Hanks maniac, as only he can pull off such a performance. Needless to say, he brought Robert Langdon to life...

Awesome script. Tom was just born for this role. I watched it 3 times in a single day. Expecting some more movies like "The Da Vinci Code" will come soon. Thank you.

Great movie, I truly think it's one of his best movies. The Da Vinci Code should be in the top 10.

24 Turner and Hooch

It's so cute and heartbreaking!
