Butterfly Wonderland is the largest indoor butterfly conservatory in America and should certainly top your indoor family fun list of “Things to do in Arizona”. The magnificent glass conservatory provides the ideal tropical rainforest habitat for thousands of butterflies from around the world to fly freely. Setting the stage before you enter the conservatory is a 3D movie chronicling the amazing journey of the monarch butterfly, followed by a tour through the Emergence Gallery where you’ll be inches away from live chrysalis as they emerge into beautiful butterflies. Along with the butterflies, you’ll have the chance to see other rainforest animals such as insects and spiders in the Spineless Giants Gallery, colorful and exotic fish in the Tropical Waters Gallery, and unique reptiles and amphibians in the Rainforest Reptiles Gallery.

    • Q:

Is it incredibly hot and humid?

      A:

Inside of the butterfly area it is, but towards the back of the area is AC and cooler air flowing. You get to stay in as long as you want. There's more to the place than just that area.

    • Q:

Can you buy tickets as same day walk ins? Is there usually a long line on the weekends to get in? Want to know if it's better/faster to buy tickets online beforehand or ok in person.

      A:

Yes, it's okay to buy tickets in person. There is a bit of a line depending on when you arrive, but it's nothing too intense. It's probably easier to buy online, but we walked up and the wait was maybe 6 or 7 people to buy tickets. The wait inside… more

I was told by a few locals that this place wasn't worth it but the butterfly conservation work they do, and the educational videos they show prior to your entry are great! You learn about the monarch migration pattern and it's amazing.

Then coming to the butterfly conservatory, the space is huge and beautiful. It has sooo many different butterfly species, and if you're wearing lighter colors or hats, they land on you. There is a cafe and they have different events. I'm not in town for long so I couldn't attend but it's a must see!

Largest butterfly conservatory in the states!

The butterfly exhibit is definitely fun for kids and surprisingly informative. The movie before entering is well done and tells the story of the monarch migration. The exhibit is unique and might seem uncomfortable at first but just enjoy the moment. Loved watching my daughter hope and hope one of the butterflies would land on her and to see her face light up when it finally happened was worth it.

There butterflies were the best part as the rest of the exhibits were meh. Nothing we haven't seen and after coming from the aquarium, it was not impressive.

So I have always been afraid of bugs. I didn't know how I was going to react when I went into a room full of flying butterflies. But I had my two year old daughter to think about so off we went!
I must say, the prices for entry were a bit shocking to both butterfly wonderland and the aquarium but hoping it was worth it!
Walking into the exhibit, we were greeted by the photographer. Kind of like the one that catches you mid roller coaster ride and you pick out your pictures at the end. We got caught in the net and had our pictures taken.
The next room actually was very informative. It had stages of butterflies from pupa to adult. There were butterflies emerging out of their pupae and coming out to dry their wings. It was rather beautiful to watch.
Finally, we decided to enter the room of butterflies! (One note, it's best to go in the morning as they are the most active then! ) I was pleasantly surprised at how well laid out everything was! I was almost expecting to see a murder scene, wings, and bodies of poor butterflies strewn all over the floor from wild batting adults running for their lives... but it was a nice peaceful conservatory where the butterflies clung to the greenery or floated through the air. I think we spent most of our time trying to get one to land on us which eventually happened to my husband. They say they land on people who are calm of mind and heart.
Overall, we had a great time! It was nice to see and interact with such beautiful versions of all butterflies.

We have been coming to Butterfly Wonderland for years and somehow I feel like it gets better each time. The visit we had on Sunday, in particular, was a special one. It seemed like the amount of butterflies present had increased exponentially since our last visit. We have never had so many butterflies land on us and interact with us. It was magical! My kids were enthralled and we spent nearly 2 hours in just the butterfly room. Definitely wear bright colors! We loved the reptile and aquarium areas as well. I love that Butterfly Wonderland always feels very clean and cared for. All the employees we interacted with were very kind and knowledgeable. We love having this place nearby! We'll be back!

A very comprehensive and peaceful butterfly world with so many additional areas to explore and learn about our planet. The butterfly area has plenty of paths and tucked away areas to just sit and be mesmerized by the butterflies zipping by! We saw several folks with their hands outstretched and butterflies landing on them!

When you first enter Butterfly Wonderland, the monarch butterfly video is a must, don't skip that! We learned so much about just that one important and beautiful butterfly from that video I wish everyone could watch it!

They've done a wonderful job weaving all the different tropical rainforest areas together under one experience from the butterflies to fish, bees, history and reptiles. The gift shop has plenty of small and large items to remember your experience or treat the kiddos to a souvenir.

Had a great time just relaxing.
Took the heart rate way down. Just a meditative atmosphere to breathe deeply and refocus. How can you not believe in an all powerful God?
Took the family and one of the grandkids for a few hours this morning. Lots of things to see besides the beautiful butterflies like a wonderful koi pond, tropical fish and reptiles.
They have a little cafe-snack bar also along with the well stocked gift shop for all things butterfly.
The staff is knowledgeable and seem to genuinely like their jobs.
The whole place was clean and neat.
      Last words...good vibes.

What a beautiful escape from AZ's hot landscape. Besides the massive conservatory, there were smaller reptiles, bugs and aquatic creatures on display. The $30 price tag was a bit steep and the exhibits were on the smaller side but I still enjoyed the unique experience.

The parking lot was spacious and free. I recommend purchasing tickets prior because there was a line at ticketing and it moved slowly. Upon entry, we had our photos taken which could be purchased at the exit or online.

Our first stop was an introductory 3D video about butterfly migratory patterns and journey. Afterwards, we were relocated to a room with tons of cocoons of different sizes and ages. We were lucky enough to see some butterflies emerge from their casing! We stayed in this room until the prior group finished their walk in the conservatory so then we could enter.

The conservatory was lovely and had luscious vegetation. We weren't allowed to pursue butterflies, but were fortunate enough to have them land on us willingly. There were so many butterflies of different kinds and staff members were at the center of the conservatory doing demonstrations. They were knowledgeable and it was entertaining seeing live stick bugs on their hands when answering questions.

After 15 minutes or so, we left the conservatory for the smaller animal exhibits. While I liked the amphibians and reptiles, they seemed forgotten as the glass was some of the crustiest I've seen. The aquatic exhibit was a tad cleaner but the stingray seemed a bit lonely. The gift shop was simple and affordable.

The most memorable and "worth" aspect was the conservatory but it was a very brief experience. I would buy the combo ticket package to save a few dollars and fill up the day.

Butterfly Wonderland was a magical experience that felt like stepping into a dream. The vibrant array of butterflies fluttering around created a mesmerizing atmosphere, making it an inner child's dream come true. The lush, tropical environment and carefully curated exhibits showcased the wonder of these delicate creatures. The staff was knowledgeable and passionate, enhancing our visit with interesting insights. Walking through the butterfly conservatory was like entering a fairy-tale world, and the interactive elements added an extra layer of enjoyment. Butterfly Wonderland truly offers a unique and enchanting escape that captivates all ages. It's a place where the beauty of nature and the joy of childhood wonder blend seamlessly. 10/10 will do again
